Was it the straw that broke the Camels back?

You can’t please everyone.

As Managers, we like to think we can take on everything and be there for everyone but then the smallest of situations can tip us over the edge.

There is fine line between engaging with your team, your boss, your colleagues versus becoming a people pleaser.

You want to nurture your team, and you don’t want to have difficult conversations but it is costing you.

You’re aware that you’re not in alignment with your authentic self, and the frustration is a constant presence, at times more subtly discernible than others, but persistently simmering beneath the surface.

People pleasing behaviour also overflows into your personal life. You find yourself saying yes so much more than you want to and it can be pretty miserable and draining.

It feels difficult to say, ‘No’.

It can feel easier to say yes to that extra workload or task, or to work over to meet deadlines. You don’t raise objections in meetings because it feels overwhelming and you start caring less.

Your way of working becomes a habit and you find its a difficult one to change.

Let’s start to prioritise you.

Set Boundaries: Clearly define your personal boundaries and communicate them. Start small, and but start saying no. It will feel unfamiliar at first, but trust me, it will get easier over time and the guilt will soon start to lift.

Develop Self-Awareness: Cultivate self-awareness to recognise when you’re engaging in people-pleasing behaviors. Pay attention to your thoughts, feelings, and actions to identify patterns that need adjustment.

Celebrate Your Achievements: Acknowledge and celebrate your achievements, both big and small. Recognise the value of staying true to yourself and assertively expressing your needs.
